    Backseat Modding Empty Backseat Modding

Post  Mayabell Sat Jan 30, 2010 3:07 pm

This is when a regular member basically tells another one what to do. It’s fine that you want to help out the staff, but it’s the staff’s job to enforce the rules of the forum. Having another member tell you what to do is a little insulting and demeaning. The staff is perfectly capable of handling any problems that arise. If you see something that you don’t think is okay, instead of saying so, PM a staff member. [In the future hopefully will be a report button]

If your post contains backseat modding, it WILL be deleted or edited, depending on the circumstances.

In the future when we have the Report button please use that instead .No one will know you used it. Only the staff will know.

Still don't understand? Here's a sort of FAQ that will hopefully answer any questions you may have.

    Q. I don't understand what Backseat Moderating is.

    A. Backseat Moderating is when a user acts like or takes on the responsibilities of a moderator or admin, or tells a staff member how to do their job.

    Q. What are some examples of Backseat Moderating?

    A. Telling someone who inadvertently broke the rules exactly what they did wrong; posting something on a thread like "this topic should be locked," etc.

Make sure you aren’t taking away a moderator's job. Think before you do something, “Is this something a moderator would normally do?” If it is, then avoid it until a moderator actually does reply. We're here to make this site fun and safe for everyone.

    Q. I don't get it, what's wrong with helping out the staff?

    A. It may seem like you're doing the staff a favor when you tell someone else what they should be doing, but really, you might be creating more problems. If you give someone the wrong information, it could be really confusing for everyone involved, and a mess to clean up. Plus, backseat modding can easily lead to flame wars, and that's not good in any circumstance.

    Q. But I really want to help because none of the staff members are online!

    A. It's good that you want to help! You can do this by reporting inappropriate content or PMing any staff member to let them know the situation.
